In the Klostertal, the element of water plays a major role: on the valley floor, the Alfenz, which arises from the Rauzbach and the Stubenbach in Stuben am Arlberg, winds its way through the Klostertal to its mouth in the Ill.
Countless tributaries along the valley flanks have a steep slope; In some cases - especially in Braz with the Mason waterfall and the Fallbach waterfall - striking waterfalls and Tobel have emerged. At higher altitudes, numerous mountain lakes characterize the alpine landscape, of which Spuller and Formarin are the best known and largest.
Another interesting fact is also very remarkable, because the Klostertal is part of the European watershed. While the Alfenz drains into the Rhine and subsequently into the North Sea, the mountain streams lead at the height of Formarinsee in the Lech and then in the Danube.
And in the winter, the weather divide Arlberg makes itself felt: Because through the west-east oriented valley draw numerous showers into the valley, but can not overcome the Arlberg, the weather divide. Thus, it turns out that the precipitation in the winter offload a lot of snow in the Klostertal and thus make the valley with its ski resorts very snow sure.
