Heimatmuseum Paarhof Buacher

Be Part of the Story

A 300 year old Walserhaus gives an insight into the earlier way of life for the farmers of the mountains.

Exhibition of our local History

brandnertal-museum-paarhof-buacher-buerserberg

With over half a millennium of settlement history, Bürserberg with its unique location and landscape diversity, tells a tale of strength against adversity. Out of the rough and wild mountain our ancestors created one of the most beautiful mountain villages, but with the rapid decline of this way of life over the last few decades it is now imperative that we preserve the history, memory and heritage.

The Paarhof "Buacher" was moved from Chapina in the years 1991 - 1993 to an ideal location in the village centre. Come and see for yourself this unique insight into Walser settlement culture.

Exhibition: The Rätikon

brandnertal-sommer-paarhof-skiaufstellung

The mountain range with its peaks, glorious first climbers and stories about the mountain huts is the subject of the current exhibition in the Heimatmuseum Paarhof Buacher.

It starts with an introduction to the history and development of the shelters in the Rätikon. The Douglasshütte deserves special attention here. It is the most famous hut in the Rätikon and has an eventful history of destruction and reconstruction. The peaks of the Rätikon then become the topic, because no other mountain range of this size has so many peaks named. In total there are over 300 pieces that bear a name. A place in the exhibition is also dedicated to those courageous people who have successfully made a number of first ascents in the Rätikon. The stories of old pioneers such as Toni Hiebeler and Emanuel Strubich are just as among them as representatives from current times, including Beat Kammerlander. However, the equipment with which the climbers climbed their targets cannot be compared. This is impressively demonstrated by the exhibits that can be seen in a direct comparison in the adjoining room. Here are the knickers and the loden coat next to the breathable functional clothing and the two-meter-long wooden skis next to tailored carving skis.
