Particularly breath-taking is the view onto the Formarinsee early in the morning, when the sun climbs slowly over the summits, the sky turns a pink-orange and the red chalk band, which gives the Rote Wand its name, literally shines. Formarinsee is not only one of the most beautiful lakes in the Lechquellengebirge, it is even officially one of the most beautiful places in Austria. In 2015, the Austrians voted for it in a national vote, and quite rightly so we think.
Lace up your hiking boots and walk to just under 2000m in altitude where you will see the bright emerald that is Formarinsee. From which side it is best to walk to Formarinsee is controversial - a path leads directly from Dalaas to the lake. A whopping 1,000 meters in altitude, it goes uphill, the step path broken up by information boards and resting places of "Steinbock Weg " (Ibex Trail), named thus as here lives one of the largest ibex colonies in Europe.
A second way starts in the mountain village of Lech towards the lake - the Lechweg. A very varied path of around 5 hours, which winds its way through the different landscapes. Or the way out of the Biosphere reserve Großes Walsertal, which comes from Alpe Laguz or Alpe Klesenza, past the imposing Rote Wand with magical views from the north. All have one thing in common: "The most beautiful place in the world as a destination."
