Winter has arrived in the Alpine Town Bludenz, and the snow-covered mountain peaks around the town seem majestic - in winter dress, they have a very special charm. "I want to experience this up close!", I say to my friend, so on our first day of vacation in Bludenz we decide to take a trip up the Muttersberg. This is also called sun balcony on 1401, sounds good!
It has snowed a lot in the last few days, impressed we look out of the gondola at the landscape below us. The higher we climb, the more valleys, villages and towns come out from behind the hills - a real bird's eye view you have from here - I think to myself. Since there is so much snow, we have brought snowshoes and winter hiking poles, this proves to be a good idea when we arrive at the Muttersberg. We remember our snowshoe taster tour that we had done last winter vacation, this time we want to explore the winter landscape on our own. We read that there is a very special theme trail on the Muttersberg, the "Alpine Art - Trail". With our snowshoes we fight our way through the impressive amounts of snow - luckily I don't have to walk in front - I smile. On the circular route we come across six artworks embedded in the surroundings, for example the "Blickbank" (Viech Bench) or my personal favorite, the "Schlitten" (Sledge). After an interesting tour, we return to the mountain station around noon. To be honest, my stomach has been growling for hours, a stop at the Alpengasthof Muttersberg is just the thing. After the lunch we start our return, we want to see some more of Bludenz.
Since there is still some time left in the afternoon, we head for the historic old town. "Yay shopping!", it bursts out of me. Leisurely we stroll through the alleys, one or the other dress in the stores finds a new home in my shopping bags. I still need a souvenir for my family, it occurs to me - what could be better than a few typical products from the region?
Unfortunately, my friend is not so enthusiastic about a shopping spree, so he suggests stopping off somewhere. Inspired by the delicious scent of chocolate that has been in the air all along, we make our way to a winter guest garden - of course I order a hot chocolate. The waitress tells us that the sweet smell of chocolate comes from the chocolate factory in town - wow! I've never heard anything like it anywhere else either.
In order to let this wintry vacation day end still correctly comfortably, we investigate in the Internet for a wellness center and we find something quickly. In Bludenz there is even the largest sauna area in Vorarlberg, the Val Blu. It was already dawn when we made our way there on foot. What could be nicer than to relax in the sauna after a sporty and active winter day? From the sauna cabin I look through the large panoramic windows at the surrounding mountains - today at noon we were still so far above - I marvel.
All-around satisfied about our eventful first vacation day in Bludenz, we return to our accommodation in the evening.
